Jacob Arthur Kaser (Jack), 98, a lifetime resident of The Dalles, Ore., passed away on May 6, 2017. He was born in The Dalles on June 19, 1918, to Julius and Lena (Ryf) Kaser. He was the eighth of nine children.
Jack grew up on the family farm, graduating from The Dalles High School in 1936. He was part of the Kaser Brothers’ Farm with his brothers, Julius and Carl, raising vegetables, cattle, wheat and hay. Jack farmed all his life. In addition to his farm schedule, he built 15 buildings, including his home. He continued to build fences and change irrigation pipes until he was 96.
Jack joined Kiwanis Club right after high school in 1936. He was a member for 80 continuous years in The Dalles Kiwanis Club and a Legion of Honor member. Jack was very involved with the annual steak feed.
Jack enjoyed farming with horses, fishing on the Columbia with horses for Seufert's Cannery in the 1940's and working at the sawmill where Les Schwab is today. When he was younger, he worked for many different neighbors.
He served on the Wasco County Planning Commission and was on the board of the Original County Courthouse.
Jack is survived by his brother, Paul Kaser; nieces and nephews, Mike Glavey, Patricia Johnson, Nancy Kaser Boyd, Ron Cox, Erin Smith, Phil Kaser, Brook Remington, Steve Kaser, Diane Long and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry, Julius, Warner and Carl Kaser; sisters, Marie Glavey Moss, Dorothy Boyd Legler, Martha Cox; and niece, Nadine Haines.
A graveside service is planned for Friday, June 2, 2017, at 11 a.m. at IOOF Cemetery with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. There will be a gathering to follow.
