August 1, 1939 – March 28, 2021
Mrs. Lonnie Sue Montgomery (nee Anderson), 81, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021 in Seattle, Washington. She was born on August 1, 1939 in Canton Ohio, the only child of Joseph and Leona Anderson. She graduated from Lehman High School and began working as a sales associate for the O’Neil Department Store where she met her future husband. She married James E. Montgomery Jr. in 1962 and raised one child in their hometown of Canton. Sue was a homemaker throughout her daughter’s school years and then after graduation, took a job as hearing aid associate. In early 2000 Sue retired and moved with her husband to Charleston, South Carolina to be closer to their daughter. Her husband passed away February 2009, and Sue surrounded herself with family, friends, and volunteer work at Summerville Medical Center. In 2016, she moved to Seattle, Washington to be closer to her daughter and Seattle became her final resting place.
Sue was a homemaker who was involved in school and community activities. She was active within the school system as a class monitor, lunchroom volunteer, and a participant within the school system’s meetings. She was also active within the Girl Scouts of America as a volunteer, and then later a troop leader. Later in life, she became a hearing aid associate for Beltone, running the office and providing hearing tests. She enjoyed working with the elderly and helping clients to hear again. During her retirement years in South Carolina, she again chose to focus on the needs of others by volunteering at the local hospital. She delivered flowers, cards, and covered the reception desk within the emergency room.
When not working, Sue enjoyed traveling, movies, and reading mysteries. She traveled throughout the United States and Europe, exploring, learning, and immersing herself in different cultures. She has passed this love on to her daughter. She also demonstrated a great love for animals from the bears she saw in Alaska to her grand dog, Hershey. She felt that a good day was when a dog was laying in her lap. She loved her family, friends, and a good game of bunko.
Sue was preceded in death by both parents and her husband. She is survived by her daughter Kim Montgomery, niece Deborah Workman, and nephews Rick and Steven Wiley.
